Hey guys, what thread sealant do you guys use for relief valves? I have been recommended locktite 567 by a buddy who works for daikin but i would love to hear what you all use

Locktite 554 is the best. Other things work, but I have had the best luck with 554, and it’s made for refrigerant

@John_Clemmer I have been told not to use 554 if im going to be the one changing them out 5 years down the roads as its going to be a bitch to get them back off

@andrew-o For it to work properly, it needs to set up for 24 hours before use but you will have to heat the parts to get them apart down the road.

@andrew-o I use it with the primer, and pull a vacuum, so it sets right away.
it’s a tight bond. It’s designed to be heated prior to removal. If you don’t heat it up, you might even break the fitting off, trying to get it out, though I haven’t honestly tried without heat.
It just depends I guess, if you’re in an explosive environment, or somewhere that is physically impossible to use a torch, then you can use something else.
I personally trust it not to leak, so for me, the reliability is worth having to heat it up for a few minutes prior to removal.
When I was at Daikin, that’s all I used, that’s all our techs used, and the relief valves came from the factory with The red 554 on all of our machines. It could be different now, but I personally trust it more than every other method.
I’ve tried 577, Teflon, tape, in all sorts of different combinations of thread sealant. I have found 554 to be the most reliable.
With a lot of this stuff, I would say find something that you can trust 100%, something that’s designed for the medium, then stick with it. There’s no method that is set in stone.
For me personally, 554, but that’s my personal preference. I’m sure lots of other guys have other great products they use.
Hopefully this helps1 -
