Short introduction
Hey fellow chiller techs, I’d like to introduce myself. Bill Neigel and I currently work for MM Services in Greenville SC. New to the Upstate moved here two years ago. Prior to I lived in NJ for 54 years and I’ve been doing HVAC and refrigeration work since 1987. Photos are of the most bizarre chiller ive worked on to date. Edwards Engineering CLS-450, R-507, water cooled. Designed to chill -10°F glycol. Thats not oil coming out of the liquid shell or the oil reservoir, that’s water from a popped condenser. Actually had three condensers pop in the same night and it was not due to freezing.

what are the thoughts on the root cause? stress from low temps?

@bill-n oh man, thats not a fun day

Lab results from the destructive testing reported erosion from corrosion wore through the tubes. So unusual to pop three in the same night.
