need to remove a Carrier 30hx screw compressor with two compressors which one of them the o-ring on suction pipe is leaking ,

Q1 : can we pump the system down using liquid line valve and-discharge valve

Q2 : After repair , do I have to add oil to the system? or what ever is in condenser is enough

Q3 : Which way is better , pump down (if possible) or recovery of refrigerant

      • I would recommend pulling the gas, especially if there is a leak. Then you know how much has been lost. Prevents call backs. As for the oil, you should be good, most 30HX units have sight glasses for the oil, check level there. Should have a full lower sight glass minium. If it does not have sight glasses, there will be an oil level switch, watch it under the inputs while running.

      • The screws should not be pumped down, damage to the screws will occur. There should be a tag on the pecker head of the screw saying not to drop the suction pressure below 10psi.

      • if you do not want to pull the gas. isolate and use your recovery machine to pump over. do not pump down.
