      RTHD

Has anyone seen an RTHD startup, VFD ramps up and slide valve slams fully loading extremely quick, chiller overshoots and VFD ramps down to try to keep from overamping? It is like the slide is broken inside compressor and i can disconnect solenoids and put a magnet and manually unload the compressor. Any suggestions?

      • How fast is it meeting the leaving chilled water setpoint? Like seconds, minutes? Is it satisfying and shutting off, or tripping?

      • From 55 degree entering about 30 minutes

Sounds like you should have enough load.

I am assuming it is a CH530 panel?
Can you get us the following so we can dig in more:

          1. A quick operating log with the leaving water temp around 48-50—
          2. Can you upload some screenshots of the menus from Techview including the config menus from the Trane Techview Software? (there is a guide for how to get it and connect to it if you need it let me know)
          3. is the vfd for starting?

We can take a look and see how its set up.

        • It’s tripping on over current after getting right at setpoint of 45 deg. It never unloads. Keeps pulsing to load.

          • I had a slide valve piston shaft break on a RTHC, without a drive, years ago that would trip overcurrent within seconds but since you have a VFD it would take longer. Those 2 compressors are basically the same so that might be what you have.

            • @jselvage didn’t even think of that, i had a similar issue on some older Mcquay stuff, but mine was on a soft start, and it also tripped out immediately.

maybe the VFD is keeping it online.

curious what he comes up with.

            • Thanks for input. I am going into it to see. The VFD is fine. There is something allowing it to load the slide. Jody is onto the problem.
