If your brand new, and you don’t have a guy to learn from, I would recommend attending some inexpensive training, or trying to get a job with a company that does them, so they can cover your training costs.
I don’t think you will be happy if you try and overhaul something without the correct procedure. There is a lot of machines that require very tight tolerances (0.05mm) without the book to tell you those tolerances, and the correct placement of your measurement equipment you just won’t know, and you could put a machine together that will break when you try and start it up for the first time.
Depending on where you’re from, it might be a lot easier to get involved with screw chillers first. Training is likely more affordable, and generally the tolerances, and complexity is better for beginners.
All of the tools you will need such as a megger meter, dial indicators, micrometer sets, feeler gauges, etc.. will be given to you in a list when you do the training.

@mohamed-atik for sure, Are you going to be doing mostly screws, or Centrifugals if you get into it?

Mostly screws we don’t have a lot of centrifugal here

@mohamed-atik that’s probably a lot easier to get into.
I would find the compressor manufacturer, and go to a class with them!
