Carrier 30HXC
Hey guys i got tasked with an external oil filter change and the manual is confusing. Theres a service valve on one end of filter but on the other end is just a solenoid valve on conpressor. Manual says to close service valve and ball valve on both ends of filter. Are you guys trusting the solenoid to hold close? Or am i misunderstanding the manual?

Some have both, and some only have 1.
Are you reading up before you go, or are you sure there is only one valve? See images

@John_Clemmer Oh okay. Yes there is only 1. Here’s some photos of what I’m looking at

@tmalanche I have had luck with the check valve, and the solenoid valves holding, but you’re gonna introduce air and you’ll have to get it out. Is it possible for you to change the external and the internal oil filter at the same time? I would try and do them both if possible.
The guaranteed way is to pull the charge change it and pull a vacuum on everything. Most people are changing the external oil filter, the internal oil filter, then pulling a vacuum on the line.
You’re gonna have to use your best judgment, no one can guarantee that your valves are gonna hold, and you have to be 100% sure you get the air out.-
@John_Clemmer Yeah that’s what I kind of figured. Thanks for the input John! It’s half temping to add a service/ball valve on the other side of the external filter for serviceability and less down time. But that doesn’t really help me for the internal filter.

@tmalanche 100%
I have trusted the check and the solenoid since it’s double valved. then you can pull from the tap right on the compressor, just be careful and use your best judgment.
When in doubt, pull the charge.
The ball valve is not a bad idea. If you change them both the first time, you won’t need to do the internal filter for a long time, then you can just deal with the external filter if you add a valve -
@tmalanche good luck man, let us know how it goes
