      I have a new Carrier 23XRVA4A4NP JR250 chiller that is tripping on Low Oil Pressure Cir A. I believe it started doing it a couple of weeks ago. We didn’t know about it. We just got called in today to look at it.

      • I would be looking for a couple things:

        #1 Flow issue. Its possible the flow switch is not calibrated, they set the bypass valve up incorrectly, or they have some sort of a scheduling issue shutting everything down at the same time, sometimes this can happen and the flow switch doesnt actually tip because of an installation error, or its not calibrated properly.

        #2 Low on charge

        #3 possible electro, mechanical, or chiller issue, expansion valve issue, controls loading it up too fast, before the EEV starts to open, etc..

        If you were able to fill out a log sheet, a pencil whipped drawing of the system, and photos of the data tag, We could tell you where your problem lies in 5 or 10 minutes.

        make sure the sensors are calibrated, fyi

        • @the-chiller-guys we didn’t install the chiller. We didn’t even do the start up. I’m actually going to meet up with the Carrier technician that did the start up.

            @ronnie5 ah ok. even the factory guys miss things sometimes, or the circumstances prevented them from going through everything.

            let us know

        • Another thing how do you adjust a triple duty valve for the condenser water? I believe the cooling towers might over flow so I’m trying to figure out how to adjust it.

          • @ronnie5 make sure you verify flow before adjusting it, but it’s like a refrigerant valve basically.

            The more you run the stem in, the less flow there is.

            The data sheet that came with the new machine will have the design pressure drop on the cond.

            The Chiller is not loading up pass 21Hz and I don’t see the oil reclaim actuator valve open up once. I can see the oil in the oil sump going down.

            • @ronnie5 can you send over the submittal from selection? Looks like there are a few different options they can select.

              We also need some type of a detailed log sheet so we can see what it’s doing.

              Hard to know what I’m looking at without more information

            • Carrier Tech here, some of the new PIC 6 machines already need a software upgrade due to issues loading up. Additionally there are some setting that can be adjusted to help with oil reclaim issues. These machines can be very troublesome if they are not set up correctly. Call Carrier tech support and they can usually help you out with this.

            • We had two machines with the same issue. We had Carrier out and they updated the software. They have been working fine with the new update.
